Dr. Carlos Van Thienen, founder and director of the institution, graduated in the faculty of Medical Science of the University of Buenos Aires in 1982 and held a distinguished position as an intern in the first cathedra of surgery in the University’s hospital, Hospital de Clinicas.
He did his residency in General Surgery at the Naval Hospital Pedro Mallo, a Hospital under the supervision of the University of Buenos Aires, and he was a resident in the Surgical Service of the Brugman University’s hospital, of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in Belgium.
When he returned he was associate director of the Burnt Unit and the reconstructive surgery in the Dussaut Clinic.

Presently he is a senior member of the Argentine Association of Surgery, The Argentine Society of Plastic Surgery, The Buenos Aires Society of Plastic Surgery, The Argentine Medical Association and the IPRAS (International Confederation for Plastic, reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery).
He has been recently recertified by the National Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Van Thienen worked as a teacher of plastic surgery at the hospital unit of San Isidro, dependent on the University of Buenos Aires and the Universidad del Salvador.
He is the author of original surgical techniques and wrote 38 scientific papers presented on different conferences and published in the "European Journal of Plastic Surgery", "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery", "Clinics of Plastic Surgery".
